Guest speaker: Annie Oak

PROGRAM NOTES:

Today we hear from civil rights activist and the founder of the Women’s Visionary Congress in her 2012 Palenque Norte Lecture at the Burning Man Festival. Anyone who is feeling that they are “out there at the end of the line” may find great encouragement in what Annie has to say as she tells the story of her own unique journey through life. And for the psychedelic community she has these powerful words, “We’re not the counter-culture. We are the culture, and we need to make the culture visible.”

    Wow wow wow….!!

After we heard this for the first time, we listened to it twice more! Possibly the best and most important podcast on the salon, right up there with the talk by Dr. Eben Moglen. Putting this on the shelf for our grandchildren.

[COMMENT by Lorenzo: I agree with you!]

thanks so much for posting annie’s words. they were truly inspiring. i would love to hear some of the lectures giving at past WVC’s. could you point me in the right direction if those files are online somewhere? thank you for what you are doing with the psychedelic salon. contentment always.

[COMMENT by Lorenzo: Here is a response to your question that I received from Annie: “The answer this question is that we do not yet post WVC talks on our website. We are in the process of transcribing six years of talks and getting permission from our speakers to post them as MP3s. The first batch should be up in June when we have our annual Women’s Congress.”]

I have been listening to these and other podcasts for about a year and a half. I have tried to turn some of my friends on to them with only little success. I have wanted to start something like a psychedelic study group for quite some time. Not until I heard this talk have I been able to conceptualize just how this might work. This has been one of the most meaningful talks I have heard. I feel like the last year of studying these substance has been leading up to me starting a study group. I am very exited to see where this goes from here. Thank you Lorenzo, and thank you Annie.
